VoNYC Inc., a private nonprofit organization promoting track cycling in New York City, commissioned a design concept and feasibility study for a multi-use building that would house a velodrome and a host of other public events. We proposed this 3,000-seat, 110,000-square-foot facility that would encompass not only a 200-meter track but also retail space, a café and community center, offices, locker rooms and event space. A 22,000-square-foot infield can be used for other sports, concerts, and film screenings. A continuous glass curtain wraps around the track and seating area, allowing the public to look in and have access to the infield below. The banked wooden track sits like a sculpture within the glass box, while a green roof topped with solar panels is designed to achieve LEED Gold certification.
